Plug Braking
Introduction
Plug braking, or reverse current braking, can be used in addition to regenerative braking to improve motor braking at low RPM. Where regen does not work, or is jerky, due to insufficient back-EMF. This is done by drawing power from the battery to inject current opposite to the direction of rotation of the motor to bring it to a stop.
CAUTION – Regenerative combined with plug braking should not be used as the sole source of braking. It should only be used in addition to a functioning mechanical braking setup.
Configuration Parameter
If the Features2 bit 3 is disabled, the controller will not draw power from the battery at low speeds to completely stop the motor (insufficient back-EMF for regenerative braking at low speed).
If the Features2 bit 3 is enabled, the controller will draw some power from the battery at low speeds to actively stop the motor. Regen brake speed sets the lower Plug braking speed limit, below which Plug braking will not activate.
